## Flights from the UK to Dubai

Direct flights run from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle and other UK airports to Dubai, many times a day.

Dubai is a popular holiday and stopover city, and an easy add-on before or after Umrah.

## Flying into Dubai International (DXB)

Dubai International sits in Al Garhoud, only around 5 km from Deira, which makes it one of the most central major airports in the world. It has three passenger terminals: **Terminal 3** is used by Emirates, **Terminal 1** by most other international airlines and **Terminal 2** mainly by flydubai and regional carriers. Dubai also has a second airport, Al Maktoum International (DWC) at Dubai World Central, further south near Jebel Ali. A few airlines use DWC, so we always tell you which airport your fare lands at.

## UK airports and typical routings

Dubai is one of the best-connected destinations from the UK. Emirates has long flown from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow, and British Airways flies from Heathrow. Schedules change, so we check for your dates. The direct flight takes around 7 hours outbound and a little longer coming home. The UAE is 4 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer.

Dubai is also a very popular stepping stone to Saudi Arabia. The onward flight to Jeddah or Madinah takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, and many of our travellers break the journey with a few nights in the city on the way home.

## When UK travellers go

October to April is the main season, when daytime temperatures are comfortable. February half-term, Easter and the Christmas holidays are especially busy, and fares rise accordingly. Summer is extremely hot, but hotel prices often drop, and indoor attractions and malls keep families busy. Ramadan in Dubai is calm by day and lively after iftar.

## Getting from the airport to the city

- **Dubai Metro:** the Red Line stops at Terminals 1 and 3 and runs to Deira, Burjuman, Downtown and the Marina. There are luggage limits, so it is better for light travellers.
- **Taxis:** official metered taxis queue outside arrivals and reach Deira or Bur Dubai in around 15 to 20 minutes and Downtown in around 25 minutes, more at rush hour.

## Local practical tips

- Get a Nol card for the metro, buses and water buses, including the abra crossing on Dubai Creek between Deira and Bur Dubai, close to the Gold and Spice Souks.
- On Fridays, Jumu'ah is early afternoon and some services start later; plan airport transfers around it.
