Flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports to Delhi (DEL), direct or with one stop.

**Quick answer:** We book flights from the UK to Delhi (DEL) from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports. The flight takes around 8 to 9 hours direct, or 11 to 15 hours with one stop. Prices change daily with seats and season, so send us your dates and we will reply with the best options and today's price.

## Flights from the UK to Delhi

Direct flights run from London Heathrow to Delhi, and at times from other UK airports; one-stop flights connect via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah or Istanbul.

Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is India's busiest airport, with onward connections across northern India.

## Flying into Indira Gandhi International (DEL)

Delhi's airport is in the south-west of the city, and most international flights use Terminal 3. It is a big, modern terminal with long walks between gates, immigration and baggage reclaim, so allow extra time if you are travelling with older parents. Wheelchair assistance can be booked in advance.

## UK airports and typical routings

British Airways, Air India and Virgin Atlantic have long flown direct from London Heathrow to Delhi, taking around 8 to 9 hours. Direct flights from other UK airports run at times. Schedules change, so we check for your dates. From Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh, routings via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul are common, at around 11 to 15 hours in total, and they are often cheaper than flying direct.

## Getting from the airport to the city

The Airport Express metro line runs from Terminal 3 to New Delhi railway station, in around 20 minutes, and it avoids road traffic completely. By car, Connaught Place and central Delhi are usually around 40 to 60 minutes away. Old Delhi, around Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk, can take longer in traffic, and the same is true of Nizamuddin. Use the official prepaid taxi counters or a booked car, rather than accepting offers in the arrivals hall.

## When UK travellers fly to Delhi

October to March is peak season. The weather is cooler, and it is the main time for weddings and family visits. December and the Christmas holidays fill fastest, and Eid is busy too. From April to June, Delhi is extremely hot, often well above 40°C, which is hard on children and elderly relatives. The monsoon follows from around July to September.

## Local tips

- **Winter fog:** from late December to January, dense fog often delays morning flights at Delhi. If you have an onward domestic flight or train to Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh or Deoband, leave a generous gap.
- **Onward travel in the north:** Delhi is the hub for Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Kashmir. A through ticket to Lucknow, Srinagar or Jaipur keeps your bags checked and can cost little more than flying to Delhi alone.
