Quick answer: Umrah in Ramadan carries a reward equal to Hajj, according to the hadith. It is the busiest and most expensive time of year, so book 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for the last ten nights. Choose a hotel close to the Haram, as roads and gates become very crowded.
Why perform Umrah in Ramadan?
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj" (Bukhari and Muslim). Pilgrims experience fasting, Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers at the Haram, and the chance to seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights.
When to book
- Book 4 to 6 months ahead for the best hotels and prices.
- The last ten nights sell out first and cost the most.
- The first two weeks of Ramadan are quieter and better value.
Choosing a hotel
In Ramadan the area around the Haram is very crowded, and some roads are closed to traffic. A hotel close to the Haram lets you return to rest between prayers and break your fast in comfort. Our 5 star Umrah packages are the closest; 4 star packages are a good balance.
Tips for a good Ramadan Umrah
- Perform your Umrah at night or after Fajr, when it is less crowded.
- Go to the mosque early for Taraweeh; the doors and floors fill quickly.
- Drink plenty of water between iftar and suhoor.
- Iftar is shared freely in the Haram: dates, water and Zamzam.
- Plan rest: long nights of prayer are tiring.
